Apartment? Uh Uh!

Yesterday I made the decision that I can not and will not continue residing in this apartment a moment after the expiration of my lease. Now the hunt for the perfect house (or perfect house builder) begins! Moving from a four bedroom very spacious home into a two bedroom quite roomy apartment has been less of a challenge than I initially thought it would be, particularly with the four kids and Dooney the dog. The problems start come into play with having to be in close proximity of so many other people (all the time),  on top of the fact that many of them have issues with their cleanliness! *I will reframe from inserting any of the disgusting photos*

When I hear “luxury living” I expect the people to have a luxury living kind of mindset. With the vigorous screening process and the pricey rental fees, one would think that the gross trifling filthy people would be weeded out! NOT!

Admittedly, the consistent weekend partying has ceased somewhat since the weather has broken and no one is hanging out at the pool or at any of the other amenities. What hasn’t subsided is the influx of people! People are EVERYWHERE and they’re constantly coming and going! I’ve never lived with some many before and I NEVER will EVER again! It TOTALLY SUCKS, especially if you aren’t a sincere people person.

For some odd idiotic reason, people in this complex seem to think that our driveways are mimicky (hope that’s the word) of the NASCAR speedway racetrack. They SPEED around the buildings and through the drives without any consideration for the children, who are out playing, or the families out walking! UGH!

My last and my BIGGEST issue of ALL is the dog poop! So this is a pet friendly complex (UGH! Even though I am a dog owner). Our lease (which EVERYONE who agreed to live here, signed) clearly states that dog owners must take their dogs to the designated doggy areas to eliminate. Once they eliminate their waste, it is the responsiblity of the dog owner to clean up the waste and discard of it, in the provided doggie waste disposal basket. Not to mention, they provide little doggies waste bags, too! Now these trifling folks over here will allow their dogs to poop all over the place! I know that accidents happen and dogs oftentimes have minds of their own, so they’re likely to poop before you get to the designated areas, but CLEAN IT UP!  The poop has gotten so bad around here, that I along with lots of other tenants, have complained and complained. I swear with all the reminders that the leasing office sends out about cleaning up your dog’s poop, the problem escalates! I spent lots of time cleaning up other people’s dog’s poop off the lawn, just so the kids can play football on the grass! I’ve cleaned up poop just because I don’t wanna walk out to my car and see it each and every single time I pass by!  I have cleaned up poop and trash (I won’t even tell you about the excessive littering) because this is where  I live and I want it to look nice and luxurious!

I love and enjoy tidy spaces. I love to look out of my window and see nice luscious greens . I enjoy taking in deep breaths of fresh air! I don’t like any of the stated above, and for those reasons apartments have now been added to my long list of nemesis!

This place is indeed beautiful and I’m going to miss it…’ll always be our first home away from our original home!

Good-bye beautiful apartments!

It’s day #7 of the Christmas break (not including the weekends) and for my household that means all four of my children have been home day in and day out! Instead of just having the younger two of the bunch with me from sun up to sun back up, all four of them have been with the momma! Admittedly, I thought I’d had pulled my hair out and be en route to the local insane asylum by now, but it has been the exact and complete opposite around here! As a family of six (including Dooney the Dog) we’ve been enjoyable and in close proximity of one another. We prepared Christmas dinner and dessert together. We’ve watched TV and even played the video games together. We’re adapting quite well to our new lives and our new place of living. I’m happy that we’re growing together and we’re learning to appreciate having one another.  Truly enjoying this Christmas vacation…kids, dogs, friends, distance, wine and all!

Being Mommy…No Walk in the Park

I don’t know, but for some reason I always thought that the mommy role would get easier as the children got older and older.Well, as my children get older, and delve further into their teenage years, I’m seeing firsthand that I was way off with my thinking. Being a mother, especially a single mother, is no walk in the park, and from the looks of it, it never will be…..EVER! It doesn’t get any easier, no matter how much the children age, and grow up. That’s NOT what I’ve been widely expecting and anticipating, all of these years! I’ve been so looking forward to the lightning of the mommy load!

So what I’ve learned is this: As the children move on to become teenagers/young adults, the late night feedings, carrying of diaper bags, loading of strollers, and car seats all go away, but in comes an entirely different slew of issues. For instance, I have a girl crazed teenager (and the girls are as equally crazed over him) who wants to hang out, listen to loud music, socialize via all the social media networks, go back and forth with the yo-yo grades….blah, blah, blah….and the list could go on and on and on. My point is, the baby issues have all gone away and now the teenager issues have arrived, and they’re here with a vengeance! Oh how I long for the stroller, diaper bag, immunization days!

The load of being mommy and the sole parent hasn’t lightened up any, in fact things seem to be heavier than ever! It’s all good, though! The job is trying, but it’s not impossible. I just have to restrategize and reconfigure my parenting plan. I’m sure I’ll be just fine!

Can you imagine going through the baby phase and adolescence phase at the same time?

I like to start…

I like to start everyday by expressing gratitude, saying affirmations and with a daily reminder of controlling my thoughts! Here’s something I’d like to pass on. Enjoy!

From The Secret Daily Teachings of Rhonda Byrne

Whether you know it or not, today you are placing an order for your tomorrows from the catalogue of the Universe. Your predominant thoughts and feelings today are creating a frequency that is automatically determining your life tomorrow.

Feel good now and for the rest of the day, and make your tomorrows magnificent.

Rivalry Between Siblings

The oldest two of my bunch are only 18 months apart. I’ve had to endure the ongoing feuding and what seems like the never-ending rivalry between these two, pretty much for the last 12 years. Now at the ages of 13 and 14, they’re hardly ever cordial to one another (when they are, it’s VERY SHORT LIVED). The constant bickering, arguing, jabbing, poking, bashing and the sabotaging of each others personal items has reached new heights, and quite frankly ANNOYING!                                                                                                                                                                                                                      In the process of diligently trying to irritate each other (each and every chance they get) I’m always the one irritated! I have reached the end of my wits, and have started rationing out harsh (well, what I’ve deemed as being harsh) punishments for the initiator and participant (just my fancy smancy way of saying, both of them are now getting in trouble each and every time an argument ensues or sabotaging occurs). Punishments include: no T.V., no computers, no cell phone, no landline, no communication with anyone outside of our home. I literally try to make their lives as miserable as they’re making mines, yet this rivalry lives on!

At this point, I need to know when does it get better because I’m at the end of my wits? I keep hearing, “they’ll grow out of it”. WHEN? I’ve heard, “they’re gonna wind up being the best of friends.” Well, can I fast-forward to that point NOW?!? I want to enjoy my children! It won’t be long before they’re ready to leave the nest, and the only memories of them that I’ll have are ones where their at each others necks!. I definitely need the anecdote to put an end to their sibling rivalry! I  want to stop dreaming of the day when they both move away, and start loving all of our family moments together!

…..this too shall pass? When?

I’ve been having extreme sugar cravings all day! I finally caved in about 5:45 CST. I had to return a video game to the Red Box anyway, so I figured I could run in the CVS and grab some candy while over there. So me and the littlest one fo the bunch headed on over. After putting the game in the slot, we went inside the store and no other customers were there. I was ecstatic to see that most of the candy bars were buy 2 get 1 FREE! I quickly picked 6 things– one for each of the four kiddies and two for me (I wasn’t going to eat both things at once. I’m saving one for tomorrow!). i was rung up rather quickly, but then! The non-reliable cashier (I’ve dealt with her before) told me that I couldn’t mix and match the candy bars. HUH?!?

Me:  “You mean that I have to get three of the same candy bars?”

Her: “Umm, yeah! YES! You have to get candy that’s made by the same company. Like these are Mars candy. You have to get other Mars candy.”

Me: “What? So….I have to look through all this candy and find out which are made by the same company, in order to get the buy 2, get 1 free deal?”

Her: “Ummm…I guess so! Yeah. YES!

She comes around the counter to find candy made by Mars. She comes up with the idea that I can get three of the same kind of candy. Whatever! Just give me my candy please! She rings me up hands me my bag, but she keeps my receipt and looks it over.

Her: “Wait!”

Me: “What?”

Her: It didn’t give you your buy 2, get 1 Free!

Me: “Huh?”

Her: Hold on! Ashley! (she calls for the manager to come over)

Me: (Looking bewildered! Zayah has now resorted to just eating the candy off of the shelf under the counter)

Them: (talking back and forth in their CVS cashier lingo)

Me: It’s no big deal! I’ll just take my items.”

Ashley: “No, no! I know how to fix the machine. She confused the machine!”

Me: (I’m confused!)

Finally, Ashley starts to work her magic. She has sent her underling over to another register. Ashley allows me to purchase my original candy of choice and she refunds me some of my money that I’d paid the other cashier. Ashley then apologizes for the mix up.I tell her it’s not a problem. I gather my Zayah, my bag and receipt (this time!) only to turn around to an extra stupid long line of mumbling and grumbling waiting customers! YIKES! Where’d all these people come from? There wasn’t one happy face in the line!

I quickly scurried out of there. I didn’t want to be on the receiving end of anyone’s anger! I just wanted to get a few pieces of candy for me and the children! It wasn’t my fault it was all that non-reliable cashier and Ashley’s fault!
